NME reports that Banksy has collaborated with Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and filmmaker Raymond Salvatore Harmon for the video for his new solo song ‘The Hollow Earth’.

A few photos of street art in Africa have appeared on the web with the speculation that the pieces are the work of reknowned British artist Banksy. Some of the images have been painted in Mali and were painted “from Bamako to Timbuktu” says one commenter on Flickr.
It’s likely they are the work of the artist as PSFK found that they also appear on his website.

Attention Berlin art lovers! This entire month Urban Affairs Extended will be having a show at Stattbad Berlin Gallery dedicated to cutting edge graffiti and street design. Some of the those showing include some of Berlin’s most popular street artists  including Anton Unai, Nomad, El Bocho and Alias, as well as international street art star Banksy. This event comes hot-on-the-heels of Berlin’s “fashion week” which you can read more about at  the iheartberlin blog. Urban Affairs, one of Berlin’s best resources for independent artists, has a full  schedule of the events up at their website.

Although some of the pieces were seen in New York last year, the Bristol Museum is also showing over 70 new pieces of work offering political satire and social mockery.

We’re not quite sure what to think about the upcoming movie “Banksy’s Coming For Dinner”. The basic premise is that actress Joan Collins and a group of friends are getting together for a dinner party to meet the anonymous, and infamous artist Banksy. Called “a film within a film” that “questions the very nature of ‘reality’ at every level”, the film is a strange kind of mock-documentary. And while the Daily Mail says it’s a hoax (it’s not the real Banksy in the movie), the bizarre nature of the film is intriguing. Watch the trailer below.

Since becoming increasingly commercial and globally successful, London-based street artist Banksy has decided to sell one of his sought after pieces for pennies – or rather, literally a penny. With the help of sponsors Brahma beer and Artichoke Ltd, Banksy is allowing art buyers and enthusiasts to bag a bargain in the recession. The initiative is based upon an online lottery with which you register, where you’re allotted a number to take along to a secret venue on 27th March, where a winner will be picked at random. There still seems to be quite a bit of buzz about East London and the above piece definitely caught our attention.  Spotted in Shoreditch, across from the Griffin (not the house of ill repute), it’s an interesting update on Pearly Kings and Queens.
We also liked the stencil at the bottom poking a bit of fun at Banksy and the monetization of street art.

I wasn’t in the US when Banksy’s ‘petshop‘ installation was opened in New York a couple of weeks back, so I went and saw it last weekend. Some very engaging art to stimulate discussion around our relationship with animals and the food we eat – although if you notice the folks in the pics, everyone seemed to be too keen on seeing the next bit of Banksy, rather than stop and dwell. Here are some of the snaps from the ’store’ on 7th Avenue.

Over the past few weeks there has been much speculation about massive murals which have been going up around Manhattan. They featured huge caracatures of rats, which looked very much like the work of infamous street artist Banksy.
All the rumors have finally been confirmed. The mysterious billboards are part of a New York City Banksy installation that has just opened. Named the “Village Pet Store And Charcoal Grill”, the show is a departure from his usual work. The pop-up store is a kind of surreal pet store, that features bizarre displays like an animatronic rabbit wearing a pearl necklace, fish [...]

We’re moved by this new work by Banksy spotted in New Orleans. The prolific street artist created these pieces to serve as bold reminders of the devastation Hurricane Katrina left in its wake, and to pay homage to the citizens of New Orleans who continue to endure it.

There’s not a whole lot of details about Banksy’s new quality control group, but he’s always been known for secrecy. As a reaction to his public work being ripped out and sold at auction, the artist has gathered a committee dubbed “Pest Control”. All Banksy works are not considered genuine until they have the official Pest Control stamp of approval and authenticity.

An “art world source” told the First Post: “The works are made for specific sites, and taking them is tantamount to theft. That is why Banksy has approved this authentication system. He certainly doesn’t want the people who’ve [...]

We can’t help but post about the latest and greatest works by well-known British graffiti artist, Banksy. But what really caught our attention was his latest venture into the glitzy commercial pop-art world – his work nudging the likes of pop-art icon Andy Warhol & absurdly bedazzled skull-creator, Damien Hirst over at the Fabrik Gallery in Hong Kong. Thing is, we never thought Banksy was the gallery-toting type (and neither do some writers of his wikipedia entry, “Banksy does not sell photos of street graffiti or mount exhibitions of screenprints in commercial galleries.[6]”).

The painting is on a wall on the side of a media production firm’s base in Portobello Road in west London and will cost $5,000 to remove…. Slightly reminded us of a previous PSFK thought piece on how the creative class is looking at art as investment as real estate is no longer available (or even stable enough).

Anyone looking forward to Santa’s Ghetto this year (the annual supermarket-art show created by Banksy and selling the works of fellow graffiti artists) may have to travel a little bit further than Oxford Street. Actually a lot further- to Bethlehem! The artists have set up shop in a former chicken shop on Manger Square in Bethlehem opposite the Church of the Nativity, and along the way have used the dividing West Bank security wall as an 8 meter high blank canvas which they have decorated with highly symbolical and provocative images.
