German Brothel Goes Green
While cycling has always been a strong part of contemporary German culture, one brothel in Berlin is giving it’s patrons a new reason to go green.
According to the BBC:
“Customers who arrive by bicycle at Berlin’s Maison d’Envie will receive a five-euro ($7, £4.30) discount on the usual fee of 70 euros.
The discount also applies to those who can prove they took public transport to get there, owner Thomas Goetz said.”
The owner of the brothel claims that the recession has hit even the oldest profession, but that this new strategy is encouraging sometimes up to 3-5 new clients per day, while [...]

Slime Currency & Bohemian Conversationalists: Berlin Collective Comes to NYC
With all the talk of Berlin being the “new New York” it’s nice to see Berliners claiming a little bit of NYC for themselves. This past Saturday at Wyoming House, The Goethe Institut’s hip new downtown outpost, Berlin-based socialist-capitalist joint venture Zentrale Intelligenz Agentur (ZIA) transformed the 3rd street storefront into a makeshift employment center, complete with fake job applications, career counseling, a form of payment known as “slime currency” (a greenish goo which could be exchanged for beer or prizes) or actual US Dollars. What were some of the tasks delegated to job seekers? Some of the most popular [...]

Future:headz Marketing Tactics at the ADC Awards in Berlin
In Berlin, a set of guerrilla marketing tactics were noticed recently. At the annual Awards show of the Art Directors Club last week, a real life ram promoted Future:headz, a Munich-based agency whose tagline is ‘Bock auf Neues’, a take on the English expression ‘going for new stuff’. The key to understanding the campaign though, is the fact that ‘bock’ translates to ‘ram’ in English.
Second, to focus attention on intelligent advertising work and not just awards, Future:headz installed two mannequins in various (ahem!) sexual positions to convey the message ‘make love not awards’. That was bound to attract attention!
And finally, [...]

Giant Dominoes to Depict the Berlin Wall Fall
To commemorate the end of the Cold War’s 20th Anniversary one thousand giant dominoes will line the former location of the Berlin Wall. Forming a two-kilometer border of East and West Germany, when cued the eight-foot high Styrofoam dominoes will fall, taking around half an hour to symbolise the 1989 Berlin Wall’s destruction. Headed by Kulturprojekte, the Domino Project aims to “encourage young people to reflect on what the fall of the Wall meant,” explains Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit. “We want to knock over the Wall once again.”
Each of the dominoes will be decorated by young local residents, with twenty [...]

Advertisement Gets a Street Art Photoshop Makeover
Make magazine has linked to a nice piece of adbusting / street art found in Berlin. A crew of artists (Mr. Tailon, Baveux Prod., Kone & Epoxy) have done up a slick pop music advertisement with a Photoshop makeover. Typical Photoshop windows have been wheatpasted over the faces of three ubiquitous top 40 music stars, perhaps commenting on all the behind the scenes image making that goes on in that world. For more images, head over to Ekosystem. This also reminded us of another real world / digital world mashup we noticed last year.
