Crochet Work by Olek
Polish-born artist Agata Oleksiak, ‘Olek‘ completed her degree in cultural studies and moved to New York where she “re-discovered her ability to crochet” and hasn’t stopped since. Creating a costume, installation and sculpture work using crochet, Olek first wowed critics in 2003 at the Williamsburg Arts and Historical Society Surrealist Fashion Show. Since then Olek has designed public installations for the 2004 Toronto Fringe Festival; crocheted eight-hundred sperm for the entrance of New York’s Metropolitan Pavilion; and has designed costumes and sets for New York’s Racoco Productions.
