Kopin Corporation has developed an LCD that measures at only 0.27 inches wide, while still boasting a 600 x 480 resolution. To stuff so much resolution into so minute a display, the LCD’s pixels are only an infinitesimal 2.9 x 8.7 µm—far narrower than a human hair, and close to the size of red blood cells. The company believes the feat means they will eventually be able to engineer a 2048 x 2048 display—greater than the resolution of today’s highest-end 1080p HDTVs—the size of a postage stamp.

“Glasses-Free” 3D Display Fails to Pop
Yesterday we finally got around to checking out Alioscopy USA’s “glasses-free” 3D LCD display on 50th by 7th in midtown New York. The display is being used as a part of a storefront ad for TWBA’s middling, yet unavoidable “snacklish” campaign for Mars’ Snickers brand of candy bar.
We found ourselves underwhelmed, as the display — little more than an LCD TV placed behind a lenticular screen — appeared to be clunkier and choppier than its analog counterpart. At the same time, we couldn’t help but to wonder if the content simply did not showcase the technology’s potential for immersive experience. [...]

PSFK recently hit the cold and snowy streets of NYC to scope out the most innovative and artistic retail store window displays for 2008. This is our fourth year and you’ll notice some familiar names on the list that we’ve featured before. This year we found intersting examples along a wide spectrum of retailers and beyond.
