Behance & Cool Hunting are teaming together to host a conference that “focuses less on idea-generation, and more on how inspiration and organization come together to make ideas happen.” More often than not, the realities of bringing ideas to life cause even the best ones to die a mediocre death. As Director/Curator Aaron Rose admits, “Managing budgets is the hardest part of any creative project.” While we don’t expect The 99% to get into the finer details of project management, we’re glad to finally see a conference that explores a side of the creative process that always gets overlooked — [...]

Participants could enjoy an intimate and casual setting, welcome in an era ruled by theme restaurants and grand settings. Foodies especially jumped at the chance to sample new talent. As the popularity of underground restaurants and eating clubs grew, so did the scale and spectacle of [...]

Dr. Sketchy’s is an interesting hybrid between art school life drawing classes and a burlesque performance. Attendees gather to drink, socialize and draw unusual models (think: circus freaks, ballet and burlesque dancers and muscle men). The event takes the stuffynes out of the art class experience and encourages light hearted fun with drawing contests and comedy skits. They encourage anyone to come too, whether a pro artist, or rank amateur – it’s more about the experience than making a masterpiece. Dr. Sketchy’s happens in Williamsburg, Brooklyn every other Sunday, and has branched out to 53 cities around the world.

The Generosity Foundation, (or The Federation of Students and Nominally or Unemployed Artists) is part performance art and part micro-lending grant program. The group of 10, each gathered $100 then pooled the money to be given away as grants to jump start art projects. This past June, they set up a booth in a New York park and gave away cash and official looking grant certificates to random aspiring artists that passed by. The Foundation will be doing more free-form giving this week in New York, as part of the Conflux Festival.
The Generosity Foundation explains how it works:

If you fancy yourself an electrophile (?) and you’re in SF tomorrow, you might want to check out Dorkbot SF, a celebration of “people doing strange things with electricity”. The event will take place at 7:30pm at Million Fishes and feature demonstrations from several innovators in the circuitry circle, including Carl Pisaturo who will be presenting Orbit 2. From the Dorkbot site:

The New York International Fringe Festival (FringeNYC) is quickly coming to a close – but there’s still time to catch one of the showcase’s stand-out gems: Sandy the Dandy and Charlie McGee: A Case Study in Harsh Realities, directed by Stephen Brackett and written by Mat Sanders and Guerrin Gardner.
