An interesting new agency has just launched, that true to the times we live in, hopes to channelize the skills of experienced but laid-off talents from the advertising industry, as well as that of graduate students from advertising programs – people who just can’t seem to lay their hands on that elusive job, even though most of them are probably extremely talented. Their logic is simple: advertising agencies are willing to spend a lot to hire freelance staff but can’t afford to hire people for full-time positions. So Agency Nil will do the work that agencies hire them for, on [...]

USA Today reports that due to shrinking job opportunities, a growing number of teens are starting their own business. The young entrepreneurs interviewed for the article say that they are learning far more about business (and often making more money) by going out on their own than they would have by taking on a traditional job.
Bo Fishback, vice president of entrepreneurship at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, explains the value of getting an early start in business:
Of course, selling can be tough work, Fishback says. But it teaches lessons. “If you get rejected 50 times as a 13-year-old, you get [...]

The OfficePOD is a sleek, modern looking outdoor self-contained work environment designed to keep out distractions, and help you focus on getting work done at home. It’s aimed at telecommuters, who may be worried about the distractions that can come with working from home like yelling kids, pets, television and piles of dirty dishes. The pods are being marketed more to companies employing telecommuters, as a benefit and a kind of assurance that work will be getting done by physically absent employees.
Although the OfficePODs looks really nice, at an estimated $7,100 a year it seems like a lot to pay. [...]

He emphasizes the need to focus all your online activities towards being the person who’s qualified for the job you’re looking for. Proposed legislation compressing the working hours of employees of New York state agencies could add up to huge savings. Assemblyman Michael Gianaris is looking to require state agencies providing nonessential services to cut back their workweek to only four days. This same schedule for state workers has saved Utah a respectable $3 million a year. Definitely an interesting idea to ponder. If these agencies are still getting their work done in 4 days [...]
