The LA Times reports that in March 2009, a year after its release, Hulu recorded 42 million viewers, a figure that puts the site ahead of both Yahoo! and MSN and situates it as a legitimate threat to YouTube’s throne. Before the episode starts, there’s an option to choose between watching a movie trailer in exchange for a commercial free experience, or continue with your normal set of commercial breaks. We opted for the two minute movie trailer of Taken – which, in our opinion, is undoubtedly more enjoyable than watching four, irrelevant, thirty-second ads. Either way, by giving the viewer choice in the inevitable ad segment improves his experience while also potentially removing commercial interruptions during the program.
