Chipotle’s iPhone App Returns

Chipotle's iPhone App Returns

Chipotle, the immensely popular Mexican grill, redesigned and relaunched their iPhone application for mobile food ordering.  Back in January the app was pulled just days after launch due to unknown glitches and design issues.  We didn’t grab it fast enough to review last time, but this new version is certainly smooth.
The app tracks down the closest Chipotle and then you go about building your dream burrito, bowl, taco or salad, throwing in more ingredients than would be polite to ask for in the restaurant itself, even letting you include special instructions.  The menu is quick and intuitive, even allowing for [...]

Air Canada’s Travel iPhone App

Air Canada's Travel iPhone App

Air Canada recently released a dedicated iPhone app that keeps passengers updated on flight information, makes check-in simple and even allows for an electronic boarding pass displayed on the phone. To update the flight status simply shake the phone and the integrated functionality ensures a smoother departure process. The 2D bar code boarding pass image can be scanned at the airport and other travel information like other flights, renting a car and important travel bulletins are also accessible through the mobile application.
Many airlines have mobile-optimized websites, but this application integrates mobile functionality with a more efficient check-in. [...]

The Last Production Polaroid Camera Kit

After Polaroid announced it was stopping production on the iconic camera technology, avid fans have struggled with the news, making fake Polaroid apps popular and even going so far as to create The Impossible Project to purchase all remaining film production material in a Dutch factory.  Now, after Polaroid moved on to digital versions, Urban Outfitters will soon sell a limited edition kit include the last production run of Type 779 instant film and Polaroid ONE600 cameras.

Prototype iPhone Credit Card Reader

Prototype iPhone Credit Card Reader

A new iPhone accessory called Square allows users to swipe credit cards through a mini magstripe reader attached to the phone’s headphone jack.  The prototype technology is currently being tested at the Self Edge clothing store in New York and will likely go on sale as more small trendy shops express interest.
The simple application and reader allows employees to enter the amount of the purchase and immediately email the receipt to the customer, complete with geo-tagged information and the signature they managed to scrawl with their finger.  Square takes an unknown percentage of the payment and a fixed fee before [...]

CardStar App Keeps Pesky Reward Cards at Home

CardStar App Keeps Pesky Reward Cards at Home

Membership, reward and loyalty cards are available from almost every major merchant and now there may be an easy way to lighten your wallet or purse load. CardStar is an iPhone app designed to store and retrieve cards which can be scanned from the barcode the app creates from your reward number. The merchant list boasts over 130 companies and currently works in the US, Canada and the UK.
The idea isn’t particularly new, but the app is free (for now) and neatly designed. Be warned that the checkout counter may have significantly reduced patience for your desire to show off [...]

New Yorker Cover Done on iPhone App

New Yorker Cover Done on iPhone App

The latest edition of the New Yorker features a cover done by artist Jorge Colombo (who we first noticed back in March), Colombo made the entire piece using a simple $5 iPhone app called Brushes.  The straightforward application enables users to pick from a number of realistic brush types, utilize a color picker with transparency settings and adjust the hue or saturation.  More importantly, Brushes enables budding artists to zoom incredibly close and export their work at high resolutions.  While the developers may have hoped it would be a hit with casual doodlers, it’s taken a whole new life and [...]
