Big Banks Conceal Identity Using Stealth Spending, Anti-Branding
We previously covered one clothing company and its undertaking of an anti-branding campaign, removing logos from its gear to focus on designing a superior product. In July we spotted a covert Starbucks store in Seattle. Now big banks are also taking measures to avoid being identified using “stealth spending” at sponsored events.
During the U.S. Open golf tournament at Bethpage Black, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Merrill Lynch, and Morgan Stanley all brought clients to the Heritage Club, an exclusive corporate hospitality center. Logo Styles of 2009
Bill Gardner, the man behind the LogoLounge book series you’ll likely find on the desks of most graphic designers reports on the styles he sees emerging in 2009. Currently readying another volume of LogoLounge, Bill has compiled fifteen categories that the bulk of logos he’s reviewed fall into. He recently posted the list with a few examples on CreativeReview. While his review doesn’t provide an overall summary of trends, commenter Dani Roberts seemed to get close with “less simplicity, more humanity.”

512 Logos From Ecstasy Pills
Swiss artist Frédéric Post has published a book that details 512 etched logos and images that he’s found on ecstasy tablets. An extract of the book says:
“You have spread out my logos on the carpet, how impressive ! I say “my” logos, but I didn’t design them, I just hunted around for them, collected and copied them. New Logos: 2008 in Review
Brand New recently compiled a list of their best and worst new logos for 2008. Top honors leaned towards simple and colorful adaptations, but there is not an agreed formula for a perfect logo. According to their visitors, the new Pepsi logo was overwhelmingly negative and the new Taca logo was named as one of the best.
The top honor went to 826 Valencia and their fictional pirate themed products. A measure of playfulness is something highly respected by other designers and the best adaptations seem to come from a balance of clarity and beauty. Most logos adopted a clearer and [...]
