In these films (which are reminiscent of psychological dramas like Memento and 2001) McQueen hopes to do more than just present his wares in an aesthetically pleasing way- but to also challenge the viewers to think about the painstaking process of having an artistic vision realized. The film begins in true film noire fashion with a man being held captive by gangsters, a beautiful brunette in distress, and ominous men in trench coats discussing the fate of our heros.
