Former McLaren design engineer Richard Thorpe has created an electric bicycle that can switch effortlessly between motor and pedal power, and looks great while doing it. The GoCycle is made through an advanced fabrication technique usually reserved for laptops and cell phones, constructed with injection-molded magnesium. Avoiding carbon fiber manufacturing cut the GoCycle’s cost down to a fifth, but the bike still comes to a steep £1,158—though Thorpe’s company is pursuing a government-sponsored employer subsidy.
