Muxtape, the formally popular and defunct mixtape site, officially relaunched last week with its new service for promoting bands. With a tiny primary library of 12 bands, including Girl Talk and Reggie Watt, the simple layout is looking to expand for any bands willing to give it a go.
Muxtape comes from humble beginnings and endured a lengthy losing struggle against the RIAA. The site originally allowed users to create short playlists from their own MP3s and share them with others. 8tracks Salvages the Online Mux – err, Mixtape
For those who remember the long and painful MuxTape saga, it may seem that another attempt to emulate the popular mixtape site would be a hopeless cause, but 8tracks is hoping for a new angle on the old idea. Users upload or select songs from the existing online library and create a playlist of 8 tracks, which totals about 30 minutes of curated music. At the heart of the site there is the understanding that music fans can create innovative playlists that lead similar listeners to new and interesting selections.
