(Pics) Good Ideas In Advertising, NYC

Yesterday, PSFK hosted a two panel Good Ideas Salon at Soho House in New York. Moderated by George Parker, our veteran (or “Old Geezer”) panel consisted of Curvin O’Reilly, Tom Messner and John Garland; and the emerging talent (or “Younger Geezer”) panel consisted of Domenico Vitale, Gill Linton and Alain Sylvain. We think with the contrast of ‘been there done that’ with the ‘doing something new’ it went rather well. Videos to follow.

(Video) YouTube Presents Good Ideas Salon, Bay Area: Good Ideas In Community

Rubulad [PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn]

Rubulad [PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn]

Rubulad
Rubulad is an off-kilter urban fun-house in the middle of Bed-Stuy, where art drips off every wall and the party never stops. The three story maze-like space consistently hosts the weirdest, wildest and most packed theme parties in the city, and its stage has been graced by some of the most entertaining, yet oddest musical talent in town. Rubulad, though, is more than just a venue; it is an intricately, decorated fantasy land circus for all the senses. Parties occur on a semi-regular basis (usually bi-monthly) and are typically only announced the day before – sign up for the NonsenseNYC [...]

Head To Hoof [PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn]

Head To Hoof [PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn]

Head to Hoof

Part of the artisanal food renaissance is having a true understanding of where food comes from, how it’s raised and ultimately how it ends up on a dinner plate. The“head to hoof” carnivore movement is Brooklyn butcher Tom Mylan’s contribution to the cause. You can find him holding court at Brooklyn Kitchen on Monday nights, teaching sold-out classes in Pig Butchering to rapt students who leave with a hefty portion of fresh-carved meat and an education in animal anatomy. Head to hoof butchering emphasizes having a genuine respect for the animal’s life, encouraging the use of all parts [...]

Brooklyn Flea [PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn]

Brooklyn Flea [PSFK Snapshot Brooklyn]

Brooklyn Flea
The Brooklyn Flea is an outdoor market housing over 100 vendors selling vintage furniture, clothing, antiques and household goods as well as local artisans pawning jewelry, wearable designs and edibles. The market is eclectic and constantly changing, drawing a loyal following that shows up every weekend for the quality food, including pizza fresh from a brick oven-on-wheels and pupusas from the legendary Red Hook Ballfield vendors. Colder months see the Flea moving into indoor Dumbo storefronts.

In Defense Of Free

In Defense Of Free

In this opinion piece, PSFK founder Piers Fawkes defends the idea of free and explains how it is making his business thrive. He says that critics are railing against three key issues – free as a progressive business concept; that free means we have to change what we do for work; and that many people don’t live ‘free’ yet.

A Media Comparison: Traditional (FT) Vs Blog (PSFK)

A Media Comparison: Traditional (FT) Vs Blog (PSFK)

Recent discussions about the future of publishing has made me think a lot about PSFK’s approach to publishing. As part of my pondering I put together a simple document with a comparison of an article that features on the Financial Times and PSFK. By looking at an article on the same subject, I wanted to compare and contrast the editorial and business approaches between a “traditional” publisher and a new one without making too much commentary about what is the right or wrong approach. I thought it might be of interest to share.
