Gap to be Bought by Uniqlo?
Is the Gap about to have a new boss? The ailing Khaki Giant, who despite cooking up some impressive collaborations, has failed to pull themselves out of a quarters-long slump, may about to be another jewel in Uniqlo owner Tadashi Yanai retail crown. Yanai, who founded Uniqlo’s parent company Fast Retail in 1984, is rumored to be considering purchasing the company as a way to further break into the American fashion market. Uniqlo Tokyo Fashion Map
As part of Uniqlo’s Spring Parka Campaign launched last February, the Japanese retail giant has come up with an interactive website which acts as a ‘fashion map’ of Tokyo, allowing users to visit the various districts of the City and “meet” it’s inhabitants- even being able to buy what they are wearing.The campaign features 1,000 men and women, all adding their own unique touches to the ubiquitous parka - culminating in a video montage of the jacket being passed from one part of the city to the other. Uniqlo have a new exhibition in the space normally reserved for mannequins. Well, in fact they haven’t done away with the mannequins – they’ve just shrunk them down to a tiny size and put their latest range of clothes on them.
