Houses in the UK may soon be wearing little hats – not to keep the warmth in but to bring in the warmth and sunshine. The hats are ‘eco-hats’ and are a design feature of a winning house design submitted to a British Government competition to build homes for low cost homes for ‘key workers’ such as nurses, doctors and teachers. The transparent, prefabricated hats sit on the top of homes like chimneys allowing sun to stream into the rooms and maximize solar heating.
