A new hotel has been built in Chile but the owners don’t expect any tourists. The visitors will tend to be researchers and scientists who are studying the area around the ESO hotel – a desert area considered one of the most hostile in the world. Much of the hotel is built underground. Materia magazine explains why,

"The problems brought by the hostile environment provide the explanation
of the design choices; the lack of water and vegetation, extreme sun
radiation, strong, uncontrollable winds, considerable nocturnal drops
in temperature, extremely low relative humidity and the chance of
earthquakes."

Sound a little like our last holiday to Ayia Napa, no?
