Dopefiend has an interview with Nike Lab director Dr. Lafortune on the eve of the launch of the new Air max 360 this week. The interview reflects the intensity that Nike put into the development of their products.

From the Lab perspective, our job is conductive research to create functionally superior, innovative products. For us, it’s entirely function. We’re like the engineers of a car – the engine, steering, and so on. We don’t care what the car looks like. However, we also have an extremely talented team of designers, and what they want to do is create fashion, and they are very good at it. But in no place in time, will the design bring down the functionality.
