Little more than a decade ago, a book about football and fashion would have been incongruous and flimsy: some pictures of perms and mullets, and a few words on John Barnes’s more unusual jackets, perhaps. But with the formation of the Premiership came an influx of money, and of stylish, continental players. Dennis Wise recalls how the entire Chelsea team traded in their Next suits for Armani the week after Gianluca Vialli arrived at the club. These days Premiership players are cultural icons in the same league as pop stars.
