Gossip is that iTunes ankle biters Rhapsody are planning to launch a music player to give some healthy competition to the iPod and a kick in the teeth to Microsoft’s future Zune product.

Rhapsody is a music subscription site and works in a different way to downloadable music as you never own the song – you just have an access to a huge (but not complete) music catalog. Their service doesn’t work with portable music players like the iPod, but a player that can handle subscription-songs could give a really alternative to those music lovers who have evolved from the need to own music. And this player will be WiFi – any music, any where, any time.
