Remember them ‘snap’ bracelets you use to have when you were a kid which would wrap round your wrist but also could be pulled straight?

Well scientists are using this as a basis of their designs for the ‘rolled-up screen’. The Cambridge team is led by Dr Seffen from the Department of Engineering:

Flexible electronics is a burgeoning area, people are looking into making very thin flexible displays that could be used for electronic newspapers, or other portable electronic media like a roll-up laptop or compact mobile phone.

There is no indication or prediction of when such technology would be available though, but the applications of such a development would be huge.
