I’ve been in love with Betsey Johnson since my sister wore one of her slinky, cartoonish, Whoville-esque black-and-gold velvet dresses to my Bat Mitzvah. So when the 60-something designer’s FW07 show began with two naughty French maids strutting provocatively down the runway, I was all geared up for a classic Betsey Johnson spectacle: sexy and sensational. But then something strange happened. The next 59 outfits to make their way down the catwalk were just plain…cute.

As it turns out, that’s not a bad thing at all. Channeling 60s London with shift dresses, cinch-waists, tucked-in silk blouses, high-waisted trousers and tailored suits, the whole collection was brought together by its sophisticated yet playful accessories: wide-brimmed hats, oversized sunglasses, white gloves and white opaque tights.
