Mahalo is a new ‘human-powered search engine’ that has been launched by Weblogs Inc founder Jason Calacanis. The site’s goal is to hand-write result pages for the top 10,000 search terms, avoid spam and concentrate on pointing to quality sites like the New York Times and Engadget.

On his blog Tbites, Mike Butcher, new media journalist, says that Calacanis has created the site as a reaction to an ‘environmental crisis’ of bad blogging, gaming the system, SEO gone mad and that Mahalo will filter the rubbish in search results into a comprehensible form.
