Giving Skype a serious run for it's money, Google have just unveiled Gmail voice and video chat. The latest tool in their communication toolbox, the new service enables users to have free voice and video conversations right from their Gmail interface.  While it doesn't tap into the phone network like Skype, the simplicity and ease of use, coupled with Gmails ubiquity, should make this latest feature a hit.

The only downside is, the service only works if the person you want to chat with has also installed the plug in.  But, once that plugin is installed, just click “Start video chat” or “Start voice chat” from the Gmail chat list and off you go.
