The Tesla online reveal of the prototype Model S EV sedan got a lot of attention earlier this year. The company has been working away on developing the car but still no set sale date has been targeted. But to show progress, new images of the forthcoming four door have been released.

These pictures show a refined front end that the company says represents the styling direction for future Tesla products. The sweeping roof line creates a dramatic profile but still retains a large interior volume for passengers. The shape strives for aerodynamic efficiency and the engineers have even made the door handles retractable to reduce wind drag. The car seats five adults plus has two unique fold down rear facing seats for children similar to the old style station wagon folding seats.

The EV Model S aims to have a range of 300 miles and can be recharged depending on the electrical source in as little as 45 minutes. Engineers have also developed a quick change system to swap out the battery in 5 minutes in response to the Better Place initiative.

Besides classifying as a green vehicle because of the zero emission electric power-plant, the Model S also makes use of some green materials in the interior fit out. Tesla uses chrome-free vegetable tanned Italian leather and 100 percent recycled PET carpeting from Futuris.
