At the recent Better By Design conference in Rhode Island, the German architect Stefan Behnisch talked about his approach to sustainable architecture. He told the audience that the building industry causes approximately 30% of the environmental damage to the planet and that we need to reconsider how we approach our buildings.

“Architects overvalue the individual building. A building is important for people who live and work but it but it is far more important for people who pass it. We cannot avoid architecture like we can avoid paintings.”
