The Protofarm 2050 project explores the broad possible futures of farming.

Design Indaba is an organization that brings creative minds together to inspire innovative change in South Africa. For their Protofarm 2050 project, they commissioned a range of designers to imagine the ways in which farming will adapt in the future.

These designs include a range of speculative ideas about what the future of sustainable technology will look like, from converting blood-sugar into electricity, to city-specific urban recipe cookbooks (think: grilled pigeon wings), scalable community blueprints and home materials that are entirely edible.
