Facebook App FarmVille Becomes Its Own Web Destination

The current most popular Facebook application, FarmVille, has launched its own website. The real-time farming simulation game promotes the concept of social-farming; users manage a virtual farm where they raise animals and plant, grow and harvest crops with their Facebook friends. Developed by Zigna, FarmVille exploded onto the scene in 2009, garnering a million users in four days.
What's the major difference between FarmVille.com and FarmVille on Facebook? One defining characteristic of the new site gives users the ability to farm without having to go directly to Facebook. The benefits of this move include uninterrupted virtual farming when Facebook is down or access for those playing on computers which block social networking sites. With an estimated 82.5 million users, the new site also provides support for commonly asked questions, forums where users can discuss their favorite farming practices, and a retail shop selling products emblazoned with the FarmVille logo.
