Ford has announced plans to create an app-store for cars, enabling developers to build software which can run on customizable displays in its vehicles.

Revealed at the SXSW festival in Austin, Ford intends to have an online marketplace where car drivers can download programs to use on the road.

Wired reports more on this:

You could encourage desirable behavior such as greener driving by creating a game where you get points for, say, driving at less erratic speeds (constant acceleration and braking is fuel inefficient) and then competing against your friends. Or perhaps there would be a tour-guiding app that links your GPS navigation to Wikipedia to make journeys more interesting.
