Seoul has laid the foundation of the world's first man-made floating island.

Seoul has laid the foundation of the world's first artificial floating island. Named Soul Flora, the island will be a group of three interconnecting islets conceived as hubs for culture, entertainment and sports. The island will be based on the Hangang River.

The project is estimated to cost $84 million and is slated to be completed in July 2010. The island will be spread over an area of 9,995 square metres, with each islet anchored to concrete blocks on the bottom of the river.
