The Virtual Autopsy Table is designed to take a detailed look inside the living (or lifeless) body by building a 3D recreation of the human form using X-ray technology.  Variations in muscle or bone density are mapped using different colours or transparencies, translating the internal body using imaging software.  Allowing medical practitioners the opportunity to make a diagnosis without the need for internal investigation or surgery; the table also offers new medical possibilities to those whose religious or cultural beliefs prohibit autopsies or surgery.  Developed  by the Swedish Norrköping Visualization Center in collaboration with the Center for Medical Science and Visualization; the table has many applications and is particularly useful as an education tool or within museums and galleries.
