Yahoo's new app for the iPhone, Sketch-a-Search, brings local search results within a sketched boundary drawn by the user.

Yahoo has launched a new app for the iPhone, called Sketch-a-Search. It promises to simplify local searches without needing to type keywords or search terms. The app has a split screen with a Google map on the top and blank slate on the bottom. Simply drawing a boundary (in any shape) on the map fetches local businesses in the search results within that boundary on the bottom part of the screen.

Currently, the app is limited to restaurant searches in the U.S., but Yahoo plans to add more local categories and extend the app globally.
