Frog Design has proposed a new way of looking at the future of objects: look at the present, and in unexpected places.

In her recent post on “Emerging Alternatives,” Eleanor Davies presents ideas of looking at the “Original” solutions to design challenges by placing significance on the traditional objects still used in the developing world. She argues that the needs of today’s product market find relevance in a few basic maxims: designs that acknowledge limited resources and consider the whole product life-cycle impact. Design research can then be focused on emerging markets, “where cultural differences are sought to inform adaptations of Western products for these growing consumer groups.”
