Concerned by excessive salt intake and its harmful effects on people, the US Food and Drug Administration is planning to gradually limit the amount of salt allowed in processed foods.

Concerned by excessive salt intake and its harmful effects on people, the US Food and Drug Administration is planning to gradually limit the amount of salt allowed in processed foods. Currently, processed food manufacturers can use as much salt as they like as processed food falls into the category deemed “generally recognized as safe.” Although the government till now has encouraged the food industry to voluntarily minimize salt in their food products, a study suggests that this measure has not been successful and recommends the government to initiate regulations.
