Apple has applied for a patent for a solar-powered iPhone, which will charge itself from the sun’s rays. Unlike other cell phones which sport solar panels on the sides or back of the device, the iPhone’s energy collection cells will be encased within the body of the phone. Patently Apple reports that the recent switch over of the iPhone’s backside substrate to a non-metal surface could lead the way for double-sided solar panels right behind the display, which will allow it to retain its sleek look.
