The Nike+ system currently tracks a user’s workout with details about the elapsed time of the workout, distance traveled, pace, and calories burned, capturing information online for a long-term picture of a user’s activity. With a recently announced partnership with fitness gear manufacturer Polar, Nike+ devices will now also be able to sync with a heart rate monitor to track beats per minute for deeper fitness information. Syncing with a user’s iPod/iPhone, the Nike+ system is capable of giving the wearer audio feedback of their heart rate through their headphones.

Over the next few weeks, PSFK is running a trends research and innovation project in association with UNICEF. We will be researching (with your help) the development of key trends that impact health and wellbeing and then using our findings to develop with partners concepts that UNICEF and likeminded organizations could consider deploying across the world.
