An interesting way to create entertainment by creating a "prototype" version first.

Tron: Legacy is more than just a film; its a guide for a new way to create entertainment encompassing films, games and brands, says Ed Ulbrich of Digital Domain, the company that developed the film along with Disney. Unlike conventional films that are born out of a script, the makers of Tron Legacy decided on developing a ‘prototype' – a short film that would give potential investors an idea of what the film would look like to mitigate their risk. Apart from raising money, this short film (see below) was used to sign up distributors, get brands involved and become the starting point of developing the game based on the film. Ulbrich envisions this as a future model for Digital Domain to make films.
