US Group Coupon Site to Partner with the McClatchy Company to offer deals to their local subscribers.

Groupon, the popular deal-a-day shopping site, announced a national agreement to assign exclusive content to McClatchy websites across 28 US markets.  McClatchy, the third-largest newspaper company in the US, will gain distribution rights for local Groupon deals not available on Groupon.com.

Since its start in 2008, Groupon has capitalized on wholesale deals to offer sizable discounts to its subscribers.  After negotiating discounts for groups with local businesses, Groupon sends the daily offers to its subscribers.  However, deals can only be activated if a minimum number of people participate, thus guaranteeing a designated number of sales for participating businesses. For loyal groupies, these discounts have amounted to over $285 million of savings, while generating millions in revenues for local businesses.  And the site is growing, with more and more people looking to get their Group On.
