SMSlingshot: Public Media Interventions
Device allows for digital-architectural interaction using projected texts.
The SMSlingshot is a digital device that enables users to hit a screen with SMS information, allowing the public to interact with urban space in a participatory way. The team Vr-Urban (Berlin/Glaswegian team of self-described “public media interventionistas”) sees this device as allowing a public and personal and interactive aesthetic presentation of information.
The SMSlingshot consists of a modified arduino board, a laser, batteries and an ultra-high frequency radio housed in a wooden slingshot with integrated wooden keypad. The user types a message into the slingshot and then aims the slingshot at the media facade and send/shoots the message to the surface (with a little help from a projector). It then appears as a colored splash surrounding the text. The message is also sent to Twitter.
