The chairman of Microsoft shares his views on the future of education.

At the recent Techonomy conference held in California, Bill Gates predicted that very soon, the best education would come from the Internet and not universities, explaining that the long existing tradition of people going to these educational institutions may soon fade away.

TechCrunch quotes him saying:

Five years from now on the web for free you’ll be able to find the best lectures in the world. It will be better than any single university.

Gates believed that colleges should be less “place-based” and irrespective of the source of one's knowledge base, credit should be documented.
