How American Apparel plans to adapt to a changing audience.

In the August 9th issue of (the much improved) Business Week, there’s an analysis piece on the trials and tribulations of American Apparel. The piece looks at the difficulties that the fashion company has faced – in particular it covers the recent time when almost 20% of their factory staff either got arrested or fled during an immigration raid and the article also tries to understand the structuring of some of the finances of the vertically integrated manufacturing and retailing business. It’s an interesting read in the continuing story of founder Dov Charney’s journey to grow the company – but for PSFK’s audience it may just be as interesting to get his take on the young adult market and how he is adapting his apparel to changing tastes:
