In Brief

Can man-made objects and nature combine to form a new classification system? A designer thinks so.

Dutch designer Bob De Graaf’s new collection “The Crossing Of Species” combines different parts of animals and everyday objects to create what he terms as a ‘new order of species’. Graaf looks for similarities in objects and nature to combine them and believes that such a pairing can develop a new, practical class of species.

He says this about his collection:

My collection can be used to create a new order of species. By using the natural lifecycle of animals in everyday objects an evolutionary up-cycle can replace linear production systems. By breeding animal-like objects or object-like animals, we can construct a practical class of species.
