German Citizens will soon get mandatory smart IDs.

Germany will soon begin rolling out RFID-embedded ID cards for its citizens that will store all their personal data. Apart from helping authorities identify people quickly and accurately, the mandatory card will also enable German citizens to verify themselves online. A special reading device will let them securely shop and interact with government authorities on the Internet.

The RFID chips for this project will be made by the Dutch company NXP .
