A new landmark structure will be built in downtown San Francisco, replacing the historical transit terminal.

The foundation for San Francisco's ambitious Transbay Transit Terminal was laid recently amidst much fanfare. The $4 billion project to be designed by Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects will be a landmark structure powered by wind and geothermal energy and will have eco-friendly features such as rainwater retrieval system and a huge rooftop park. The new terminal will come up at the site of the existing iconic transit terminal that closed down earlier this week.
