ShopAlerts is a new location-based mobile marketing platform that enables retailers to send text messages to consumers when they are in specific “geo-fenced” locations. Customers have to opt-in to a retailer’s mobile alerting system and as soon as they are within the vicinity of the retail store, the store sends a location-triggered message to the customer advertising new promotions, products or discounts.

ShopAlerts service seems like a win-win for both consumers and businesses, unlike conventional mobile text-messaging services, it offers relevant ads to the consumers at the appropriate time, when they are shopping, not at random times. For businesses, it would lead to more traffic in their stores as their target audience would be in a buying mode when their messages hit them.
