A new LG washer-dryer set uses a unique signaling method to relay machine problems.

LG's new washer-dryer system comes installed with “SmartDiagnosis technology,” which gets owners to type in a special numbered sequence when the device isn't working properly. The machines then play different musical tones to represent the problem at hand.

The audio signal can now be easily relayed over the phone to a repair technician, who may offer quick fixes for the problem.

It's an interesting signaling method that makes it both easy to convey a possibly technical issue, and cut down the need for a physical visit from the technician.
