20’s Plenty For Us: Making Roads And Communities Safer For Everyone
A traffic initiative has resulted in more friendly roads and less pollution in residential areas of the UK.
The 20’s Plenty for Us initiative by the UK’s Dept for Transport has proven to be a great success, with less traffic and pollution, more walking, greater freedom for the elderly and kids to use the roads and better driving conditions for motorists being some of its direct benefits. The program, which mandates a 20 mph speed limit on the residential roads of the UK, has attracted the attention of the New York City Department of Transportation, which has announced plans for experimenting with 20 mph zones in the city.
