PSFK was able to catch a glimpse of an interesting anxiety-powered map at the opening of the You Are Here → Psychogeography of New York City exhibition held at the Pratt Manhattan Gallery. The LED-based map visualizes New York City districts with data from unemployment rates in each ZIP code – areas with higher unemployment rates are illuminated more densely with LED’s.

To represent the anxiety that comes along with unemployment, the lights are powered metaphorically with “sweat,” as seen in the bottles below (the saltwater batteries are actually fueled by the oxidation of metal nails resting in a saline solution).
