A science fiction-like technology that uses ultrasound to control the mind could soon be a reality.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency or DARPA as it is commonly known, is developing a new technology that will allow soldiers to manipulate their brains' functions. The transcranial pulsed ultrasound device will be implanted in battle helmets and will enable troops to improve their alertness, relieve battle stress and reduce the effect of brain injuries by simply flipping a switch.

The technology is the brainchild of neuroscientist William Tyler from Arizona State University who has created this device capable of stimulating brain circuits from extremely specific regions of the brain.
