Self-serve vending machines delivers dairy 24 hours a day.

In an effort to reach a wider audience for his product, a German dairy farmer, Bruno Stauf, living in the town of Neunkirchen-Seelscheid near the city of Cologne, has come up with a novel solution –  a 24 hour milk vending machine. The “Milchtankstelle” is able to store and dispense the daily output of 78 cows, enabling Stauf to serve his growing base of customers around the clock.

Though the initial investment was rather steep, costing nearly 12,000 euros, the self-serve filling station eliminates the need for a distributor or retailer to market and sell the milk, creating a bigger return on every liter sold by nearly 50 cents, while also delivering a fresher product. Customers simply bring their own containers or purchase bottles directly from the machine, select a size and insert the corresponding amount of money to begin dispensing the milk.
