The removal of one of the best ways to browse for news off-site illustrates a strategy that is all about the publisher and little about the reader.

On a recent review of a story behind the paywalled Times of London, we were a little concerned to to discover that all RSS news feeds have stopped working since June 15. RSS is one of the key ways that people monitor news and updates – whether they realize it or not.

As an online publisher, we believe that producers should try to monetize their content any way they can – but the more we look into the Times strategy, it seems to have regressed back to the mid 90s when ‘walled gardens’ was all the talk.
